A new hardware store named after the owner’s granddaughter had a successful opening over the weekend.

John Hallifax has launched Annie’s Hardware and DIY in Long Sutton - which has been named after his granddaughter Annie Leigh White, who will turn two in April.

His son James, whose sister Penny is Annie’s mum, has helped to get the store ready for the grand opening on Saturday when they enjoyed a steady stream of customers.

James said: “Dad absolutely loved chatting to people who came into the shop.

“There were some familiar faces who visited and had a look around.

“It went really well and was a success.”

Visitors enjoyed browsing around the store which provides equipment for gardening, plumbing, electrical, paint for decorating, multi fuels and much more.

James said: “It is lovely to see businesses in the area keeping that family tradition.

“I just think it is about supporting one another and creating a foundation for the future.

“The main outcome is that people need it.

“Our niche is customer service and catering across the board.”

The family, which has hired Shane Taylor and Jodie Grief, is keen that customers voice what they would like to see in the store.

James added: “The feedback about what people wanted to see in the store has been handy.

“If they would like to see something in stock we would happily get it in.

“It is about attending to people's needs and not every shop has that level of customer service.”
