Supermarket bosses from Asda tight-lipped as rumours persist for site on the outskirts of Spalding

Tight-lipped supermarket bosses do not wish to comment on rumours that they are eyeing up a site on the edge of Spalding.

Rumours persist that Asda may want to develop land to the south east of the A151/A16 roundabout — and the suggestion has come to the fore again following plans for new Burger King and Starbucks drive-thrus for the south west of the roundabout.

We have approached Asda for comment but a spokesman said the firm did not have any information to share on the suggestion at the moment and declined to say anything further.

It’s not known whether the land in question would be big enough to support a full supermarket or smaller convenience store — but any development would come after county highways bosses carried out work to the roundabout.

The land is 3.8 acres in size and was sold by Savills for about £1.3 million last year.

A Savills listing for the land said that planning consent had been granted for a hotel, pub/restaurant and drive-thru in 2005 but the land was marketed as being fit for a ‘range of uses’.
