Spalding Amateur Swimming Club splashes out on 90 year celebration held at South Holland Centre, Spalding
Members of a swimming club splashed out on a night to celebrate their milestone anniversary.
Spalding Amateur Swimming Club held its 90th year celebration at the South Holland Centre, Spalding.
Guests enjoyed a disco, buffet, bar, raffle and a specially made cake to mark the occasion along with photos from the archives on show throughout the evening.
Susan Briers, membership secretary, said: “It was a good do and everybody who came along said they enjoyed it.
“The 90th is a big thing for us and we aim to get to 100 in another ten years.
“It is something we celebrate as it is amazing when we think we are all volunteers and it has kept going.”
The club provides swimming lessons at the Castle Sports Complex on Tuesday nights and volunteers are essential for its continuation.
Mrs Briers said: “We still need more volunteers and there are many ways to help - you don’t have to swim.
“It is important to carry on so that we can teach youngsters to swim.
“We struggle for leaders and we need new people on the committee.”
The group also caters for adults learning to swim and there is a thriving water polo club.
Mrs Briers added: “We don't want the club to fold and we encourage new helpers to come along.
“At the moment it is thriving and it would be such a loss to the community without it.”
