Pinchbeck-based Billie’s Fins Swim School offering free water safety sessions to schools
A swim school is helping youngsters stay safe this summer by taking their safety message into schools.
Pinchbeck-based Billie’s Fins are offering the free session to interested schools in the county and beyond.
“Heading into the summer holidays, there’s already been a few nasty stories on the news about children in the water,” explained Billie Whyatt, whose swim school also runs classes in across the county border in Eye and Orton.
“We’re very passionate about keeping children safe and asked what else can we do to ensure children are safe, not just through swimming lessons but being aware of the dangers of water and around us.
“We contacted some schools and we did three talks in our first week.
“It was amazing, the fact you can get all those children there for 30 minutes covering the danger of water out and about and also at home.”
From rivers and drains to ponds and baths, all aspects of staying safe from water over the summer months are covered.
“We’ve always known the importance of safety, but after our first session, and seeing how engaged the children were, it’s paramount that this needs to be addressed to all children in schools.
“All children get a leaflet to take home and hopefully have more conversations about safety at home.”
