The committed and enthusiastic Sarah Chalcraft was crowned our most inspirational secondary school teacher.

Sponsors and judges Fowler Welch handed over the award to Spalding High School's Head of Mathematics after she impressed them with her commitment, knowledge and leadership. She was called a 'legend' by her students.

Bourne Academy's Richard Folk and Clare Owens at The Deepings School were named runners up.

Sarah said she was "ecstatic" upon winning the prize.

"I don't think I can begin to describe just how much I love my job," she said.

"There isn't a single day that goes by where I don't want to get up for school, and I was really lucky to be supported during the pandemic so that I could carry on teaching.

"I'm just so thrilled with this."

Sarah told us her students played a big role when it came to winning the award.

"I can't describe the brilliance there is in a lesson when the kids have lightbulb moments," she said.

"There's nothing like being able to impart the knowledge that you have so that kids can take up maths.

"We're so lucky that we've got some amazing students here, and watching them grow from Year 7 to Year 13 is an absolute privilege."

The award was one of eleven handed out in the Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian Education Awards, held at Springfields Events Centre in Spalding last night.
