Lincolnshire devolution deal is ‘far from perfect’ says South Holland District Council leader
Lincolnshire’s devolution deal is ‘far from perfect but it is starting place’ says the leader of South Holland District Council.
Coun Nick Worth feels that the Greater Lincolnshire Devolution Deal which has been approved by the Government is a ‘baseline’ in which to correct the county’s historical underfunding.
The deal promises to bring an additional £24 million per year investment fund and other cash to the area along with the establishment of a regional mayor. Elections are due to be held next year.
Coun Worth said: “Lincolnshire has always asked for more money and historically it has always been underfunded, so this is a baseline from which to draw down further funds and greater devolution in the future.
“It is far from a perfect deal, but it is a starting place from which to negotiate and will undoubtedly raise the profile of Lincolnshire as a whole.
“While districts will be disappointed that they will not have full representation at the table, there is better representation than any other devolution deal in the country and we have to ensure that our part of the county gets its fair share of funding."
The deal received support from Lincolnshire County Council, North Lincolnshire Council, and North East Lincolnshire Council roughly six months ago, but was placed on hold due to the General Election in July.
