Spalding High School to premier The Show Queen in version created by Noisemaker Productions and based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale




Talented young performers have been gearing up to showcase their skills with a spellbinding musical production this week.

Year seven, eight and nine students at Spalding High School, Stonegate, will be treading the boards this week in The Snow Queen – supported on stage by more experienced Year 12 performers.

The youngsters will showcase their singing and acting skills in the musical – created by Noisemaker Productions – which explores themes of friendship, strength and perseverance.

Head of drama and deputy head of English (KS3) Tanwen Fisk, is directing the production and she said: “We feel really lucky that Noisemaker let us put the play on.

“We are premiering the new live version and it has really fantastic music.

“The songs feature an ancient Norse language Seiðr which was used by witches and shamans who can change the course of events.”

Head of music Richard Garbett was really taken by the music and the students have shown commitment to putting on the show.

Mrs Fisk said: “Students have really turned up and worked really hard.

“The message of the show is to find strength within yourself and perseverance and they are not only singing about it but they have shown that.

“The production helps to bring about a sense of community amongst the children and develop confidence and friendships in other year groups.”

This stage version has been adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale The Snow Queen about epic quests of good against evil.

The story focuses on the friendship between Kai, who is missing, and Gerda, who is bravely searching for her best friend – with Olivia Brown in Year 12 taking on the role of the Snow Queen.

Creators from Noisemaker Productions wished the young cast ‘huge best wishes’ and said that they are ‘‘incredibly honoured that you chose to dive into our re-imagined version of this classic tale’.

It is show week from tomorrow (March 20).

Tickets are still available for the production which runs on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and cost £6.50.
