Girls' football teams from Bourne, Gedney, Langtoft, Lutton, Market Deeping, Moulton and Thurlby compete in comeback School Games event

The School Games competitions have returned after an absence of nearly two years because of Covid-19.

Some 88 pupils from nine schools across the Lincolnshire South East School Sport Partnership visited The Deepings School to take part in a Year 3/4 girls' football festival.

Organised by Agilitas Sports, this was the first face-to-face event since 2019. For most of the girls it was their first time on a school trip and certainly their first experience of School Games.

The aim of the day was for the girls to learn some new skills, play a few games and show off their teamwork and friendship.

Upon arrival the pupils went off in groups of five for a coaching session with one of the 28 Sports Leaders from The Deepings School. For the rest of the day the 20 teams played matches each against others and had a great time putting their new skills into practice.

Organiser Rupert Gibson was delighted with how the day went, saying: "This is a perfect example of how School Games can bring together pupils who want to learn how to coach and lead with pupils who we want a chance to participate and compete in sport.

"Huge thanks on behalf of the primary schools to The Deepings School for hosting us and to Mr Cotton and his sports leaders who did a superb job."

Lutton St Nicholas/Gedney Church End and Langtoft teams tied their group. Teams from Market Deeping Community Primary won their pools, with Thurlby and Westfield coming second. A Bourne Westfield team won the fourth pool with Linchfield and Bourne Abbey coming joint second.

The School Games Values Award was presented to a team from The John Harrox School in Moulton, who were voted to have shown the best teamwork and friendship.
