Spalding’s Abbey Passage is tidied up as new accommodation found for rough sleepers

Parts of a town centre alley have been boarded up after rough sleepers had been moved on.

Three men had been living in Spalding’s Abbey Passage until recently - which prompted a number of concerns including environmental and anti-social behaviour.

Boards have now been placed around a recess in the passage - where the men had been sleeping on mattresses - in a bid to prevent it being used by other rough sleepers in the future and the site has also been cleaned by South Holland District Council.

Spalding councillor and new deputy mayor for Greater Lincolnshire, Coun Ingrid Sheard, thanked everyone who helped to resolve the situation during a recent Spalding Town Forum meeting.

Coun Rob Gibson, forum chairman and deputy leader of Lincolnshire County Council, said he had worked with Hills Furniture Store along with South Holland District Council leader, Coun Nick Worth and the housing department to resolve the situation.

He said that the housing department had found accommodation for the men while the environmental department had cleared the rubbish and washed down the passage.
