Community Mind Matters coach Vanessa Browning, of Spalding, overjoyed after successful mental health awareness week campaign

More than 45 businesses showed their support for mental health after taking part in a successful project.

Spalding life coach Vanessa Browning visited shops around the town to encourage them to put up posters in their windows for Mental Health Awareness Week, which was between May 13 and May 19.

Vanessa first started the project three years ago and each year it has grown from strength to strength, with more people getting involved. She said: “We had more than 45 businesses involved this year, compared to when we first started where we handed out around 20 posters.

“It was the most we had ever had and next year we are going to order more leaflets. It was nice that people engaged with it and understood what I was trying to achieve.”

Vanessa hopes that as a result of businesses showing customers that they support Mental Health Awareness Week, it will open up an opportunity for people to get help and talk to someone.

The leaflet also includes information about Community Mind Matters which offers non-clinical mental health guidance to help people ‘guide through the challenges life brings with open and honest conversation’.

Premises involved included Simpsons Butchers, Ayscoughfee Cafe, The Loft, Charmed Interiors, Sunshine Cafe and many more.

Vanessa added: “I think a lot of other businesses would support the scheme and there were so many I didn’t get round to visiting or some were closed at the time I went.

“I’d also like to thank the police for getting involved and Simpsons butchers who have supported it for the second year.”
