Albion Street in Spalding to be closed for gas works

Motorists have been warned that a town centre road will be closed in order to carry out ‘essential’ work.

Drivers have been told to expect delays as Albion Street in Spalding will be shut from Monday (June 23) to July 7.

The roadworks will be carried out by Cadent, which plans to replace old gas pipes with new plastic ones so houses in the area will be ‘ready for greener gas in the future.’

A spokesperson from Cadent said: “This is an essential project that will keep the gas flowing to the people of Spalding for generations to come.

“What we are doing here is taking a part of a gas pipe out of service as we are making upgrades to our network in other parts of the town that will mean it is no longer needed, owing to it being decades old.

“We thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we carry out these essential works.”

Diversion routes have been put in place.

Earlier this week, Network Rail announced that the Winsover Road level crossing while it receives a £215,000 upgrade. The first closure takes place on Saturday, July 5, from 8.30pm to Monday, July 7 at 7am.
