Spalding Post Office in new hands ahead of changeover into convenience store

The future of Spalding Post Office has been secured after a change of management ahead of a forthcoming rebranding.

VPS Group, of Nottingham, have taken over operating the post office, in Winsover Road and will be protecting counter services in the town.

As part of the change, the outlet will soon be renamed High Street Convenience Store and will sell greeting cards, stationery, confectionery, milk, soft drinks, cigarettes, beers, wines and spirits.

VPS Group confirmed that experienced Post Office will continue to work at the store which will stay open while the changeover takes place.

Ash Singh, postmaster and VPS Group director said: "Spalding will be the 10th Post Office and micro-convenience store we have taken on since January.

"With the coronavirus pandemic, all of our Post Offices in town centres were hit at first, but then the confidence returned to town centres and people really liked the fact they were visiting modern and recently refurbished branches.

"At the same time, they could see social distancing measures and PPE protection in place."

Spalding Post Office was previously run by Lincolnshire Co-op which announced in March this year that it had decided not to renew its lease on the premises when it runs out in February next year.

Wayne Dennett, group Post Office manager for Lincolnshire Co-op, said: "We have been pleased to work with the Post Office and other partners to ensure that the service is retained in Spalding.

"We would like to thank the team for all their hard work over the years."

The opening hours for Spalding Post Office will stay as they are, from 8.30am until 5.30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 9.30am until 5.30pn on Wednesday, 9am until 5.30pm on Friday and 9am until 4pm on Saturday.
