Teachers set to open Building Blocks Nursery in Spalding and Pinchbeck
Two teachers aim to share their passion for education with pre-school children when they open two nurseries.
Lorraine and Josh Agdomar want to help raise the standard of early years education along with providing a social programme when they open Building Blocks Nursery in Spalding and Pinchbeck.
There is a big shortage of childcare places in the Spalding area - creating a nightmare for many working parents - but the couple are hoping to ease some of the pressure when they open in the coming weeks. There is a need for 95 additional places.
Manager of operations Mr Agdomar, who has taught classes from reception to year 6 over a ten year career, said: “Our focus is on providing a high quality early years education.
“We are wanting to move away from the focus on childcare and bring it to early years education.
“It is going to be a big challenge but we are very excited.”
Mr and Mrs Agdomar are well aware of the shortage of early years places after having to travel to Peterborough to find a nursery with places after moving to South Holland several years ago.
Mr Agdomar said: “We registered with every setting in the area and there were no spaces.
“We made a 24 mile journey to the outskirts of Peterborough where we could find a setting.”
The couple are working with Lincolnshire County Council to transform the former Little Treasures sites in Haverfield Road, Spalding, and Knight Street, Pinchbeck.
Ofsted had closed the Spalding nursery under its previous operators following a damning inspection.
When the opportunity to take over the nurseries suddenly aorse last year Mr and Mrs Agdomar felt it was a chance to make a difference.
They will be caring for babies up to pre-school children and creating 15 new jobs.
Mr Agdomar said: “A lot of children get to school without the necessary skills that they need to really thrive in reception.
“We will be preparing them for reception - that will be our number one focus.
“We will be focussing on literacy and numeracy and all the different areas of the Early Years Framework but we will also be providing an enrichment programme.
“Social development is so important.
“Every child is entitled to be whoever and whatever they want to be and achieve everything they want to be.
“We are passionate and we feel we have a lot to give and to offer.
“We want them to achieve more than we have ever achieved and we want to provide those opportunities.
“We will inspire the children here to get on and thrive in their primary education.
“At Building Blocks we not only focus on the children but also on the family.”
