The Spalding Ukulele Orchestra celebrates its 15th anniversary with ‘Ukes Got Talent’ celebration
An orchestra celebrated its 15th anniversary and hailed its feelgood ‘family’ atmosphere.
Spalding Ukulele Orchestra members were invited to share their wealth of talents at the ‘Ukes Got Talent’ event as well as enjoying a buffet spread and special birthday cake.
Secretary Katy Walker said on behalf of the committee: “Turning 15 is a fantastic achievement for the group and it was made even more monumental by the fact that there were three founder members with so much history to share.
“The group was originally found by former musical director, Will Dunlop and initially, there were about 10 members but we now have 45. From then on the group has gone from strength to strength.
“I have only been a member for just over a year now and found myself looking for a group to join after dealing with ill-health. I was spending too much time in my house, in my own company and needed to get out and be with other people.
“For me, like many of the other members, the Ukulele Orchestra of Spalding is like a second family. We support each other, we celebrate each other and we have fun together.”

The group holds sessions every Thursday evening at Broad Street Methodist Church in Spalding from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. If you are interested in joining the group the next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 4 and will cost £3.
Katy added: “When I started the group last year, I knew very little about playing but I have slowly began to build up a range of chords and strumming patterns. I've still got a lot to learn and I would say I'm still at a novice standard, but with the experience of others around me, it feels great to be part of the group.”
