Spalding Royal Naval Association veterans make VE-Day parade in Moulton ‘extra special’

A village VE-Day event, which attracted hundreds of residents, was made extra ‘special’ as veterans led the parade.

Moulton Celebration Committee members say they feel ‘honoured’ after Spalding Royal Naval Association attended the event on Thursday (May 8).

The parade set off from Moulton Windmill at 7.30pm and was led by veterans and youngsters from Whaplode and Moulton’s scout group.

One of the members of the committee, Coun Andrew Woolf said: “We were absolutely thrilled to have veterans from Spalding Royal Naval Association lead the parade and light the beacon – it made it extra special.

“The local scouts followed behind them and I think it is really important the younger generation remember why we light the beacon and what’s happened as time has gone by – things like that should never be forgotten.

“It was our fourth year of lighting the beacon and ours was one of the largest in the area – we had about 300 people who came to show their support.”
