Tydd St Mary Primary School welcomes Viking visitor and holds a mini-marathon
A Viking visitor and a mini-marathon have been recent highlights at Tydd St Mary Primary School.
Viking visitor Hrothgar set up camp in the hall, complete with tent, animal skins and camp fire. He worked with children in Kingfishers Class as an introduction to their next unit of work – 'Discovery'.
He shared his weaponry by re-enacting battle scenes and then let the children dress up in Viking clothing and handle the weapons.
They acted out stories of Viking gods and went outdoors to 'make fire' with flints.
Meanwhile, teaching assistant Lauren Day set herself the challenge of the virtual marathon, running her 26.2 miles through local villages, cheered on by members of the school community.
Lauren finished around 21,000th out of the 80,000 runners who competed and raised £455 for the British Heart Foundation.
Her feat inspired Robins class to run their own 'mini' marathon of 2.6 miles around the school grounds. Every child received a medal and all were proud of their own and Miss Day's achievement.
