Cowbit village and community hub reveals revamp after £20k funding
Exciting plans to give a village – and its community hub – a makeover can be revealed.
A village hall revamp, new children’s play equipment, heritage boards and wildflower planting are among the plans currently being put into action in Cowbit.
Last week an application from Cowbit Village Hall’s committee secured £20,000-worth of backing in the latest round of the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, along with four other South Holland hopefuls.
Changes to the village hall with include a new, updated porch and front door, plus lighting in the car park.
The hall will also purchase a number of new chairs with arms for older visitors who attend functions and the warm hub.
“We want to modernise the hall and make it better for everyone,” explained village hall committee chairman Darren Harper.
“We’ll use the money to replace the front door and make it that bit more secure. It needs modernising.
“We’re putting in lighting in the car park as there is none and it can get very dark.
“The chairs with arms on was requested by senior residents as it makes getting out of the chair easier. It’s simple, but makes a big difference to them.”
The heritage boards will be dotted around the village, explaining hot spots and historic facts to residents and visitors.
Interesting areas of wildlife, heritage and also cycle routes are planned to be highlighted on display.
Meanwhile, it is hoped further funds will be allocated for play equipment in the local park.
The project to create designated areas for wild flowers has been in the pipeline for some time, but can now get the green light thanks to the UKSPF funding.
“We're thrilled to bits to receive the funding, it will be a great benefit to the hall and the village,” Darren added.
“Hopefully these changes can benefit everybody.
“Things were difficult during Covid when revenue streams stopped overnight. But to receive this funding is the icing on the cake.”
