Northgate in West Pinchbeck to be closed until next week
Repairs to a burst water main will result in a village road until the middle of next week.
Anglian Water has closed the Cross Lane and Northgate crossroads in West Pinchbeck while they complete the repairs. The firm had closed the crossroads in August while completed mains repairs.
The diversion route for the Anglian Water closure resulted in motorists being forced to use Beck Bank, which can be quite narrow in places.
A spokesman for Anglian Water said the diversion route was decided by a thirty party traffic management company.
She said: "Our team of engineers are currently on site fixing a burst main on North Gate, West Pinchbeck. To allow this essential work to be completed safely we have had to close the road.
“We apologise for any traffic disruption caused, but all being well this will be reopened by the middle of next week."
This latest issue will create further problems on the roads around West Pinchbeck as Northgate is also closed near The Ship at Pinchbeck while Cadent replace a gas main.
More lorries have been seen using Glenside South during the closure.
Pinchbeck Parish Council has appealed to haulage firms and farmers to find an alternative route rather than using the village as a cut through.
Coun Elizabeth Sneath, who sits on both Lincolnshire County and South Holland District Councils, said: “There is no doubt that the closure of Northgate for gas main renewal is pushing an enormous amount of HGV lorries onto Glenside South but the gas main renewal work is vital for safety.
“However, I know people on Northgate are enjoying the quiet road during this time!
“Fortunately, work is not going to carry on until the given date of December 14 but should be completed at the end of next week.
“Living on Glenside North I see the passing problems when two giant vehicles meet and some very careful backing is needed to avoid scrapes and damage the the lorry sides and the river wall.”
