Spalding Flower Parade committee will hold pop up event to encourage ‘urgently’ needed volunteers

A committee which is urgently looking for volunteers to help with a town’s showpiece event will be holding a pop-up event this Friday (March 28).

Spalding Flower Parade takes place Saturday, May 10 — running through the town from Springfields Event and Conference Centre — and organisers are looking for a number of people to help with marshalling the major event.

The parade, resurrected in 2023 by Stephen Timewell, has a ‘musicals’ theme for 2025 and the pop-up event at the United Reformed Church, Pinchbeck Road from 6.30pm- 8pm has been arranged to encourage volunteers to come forward so that it can hit the right note.

Tanya Chandler, volunteers coordinator, said: “We are powered by the huge generosity of people giving up some of their time to help volunteer for us.

“We are always looking for people to help us in many different ways.

“These are vital roles we need volunteers for in order for us to make your 2025 Spalding Flower Parade.”

The committee formed to pick up the baton from Mr Timewell after he left the town is urgently looking for people willing to take on the following tasks: road closure marshals, barrier control, event site set up/takedown, gazebo setups, position lighting towers, erect signage and forklift driver.

Raising funds for the parade is an ongoing venture - including bingo and quiz nights, collection buckets for donations - and volunteers play an integral part in the success of the parade.

The 2025 Flower Queen and deputy are due to be crowned at an event at Springfields Exhibition Centre on Saturday April 26 at 7pm. The ticketed event will feature live music from 'Mullered at The Mill' — with proceedings to be led by compere Jeff Woods aka 'Pavanotti'.

If you are able to help volunteer at the parade and cannot attend this week’s event then send an email eventcontrol@spaldingflowerparade.org.uk for further details.
