Spalding Water Taxi will not operate tomorrow due to low water levels on River Welland

Spalding Water Taxi will not be operating tomorrow (Friday, September 12) due to low river levels.

Operations manager Anthony Grunwell says it is not safe to run the popular boat ride as Springfields jetty is at an unsafe angle for passengers.

It is not clear if the taxi operations will be resuming on Saturday.

Mr Grunwell said: “Health and safety is our top priority for clients and staff so there is no way I could consider operating in that situation.

“The jetty at Springfields is at such an acute angle.”

Spalding Water Taxi will stop operating on September 28 for the winter so the operators would be disappointed to miss out on a trading weekend.

The taxi, which is a not for profit organisation, was not able to operate at all during 2024 due the low river levels following the damage to a river bank at Crowland and Cowbit Wash in Storm Henk.
