Reindeers, elves, presents and angles are all welcome for Christmas charity fun run event around Spalding
Organisers of a Christmas-themed charity fun run hope it will become a regular event for the town and encourage entrants to dress up.
South Holland District Council chairman Andrew Woolf is once again working with Halmer Harriers to put on the Santa Fun Run on Sunday, December 8.
The 4.5K run is open to runners, walkers, joggers and strollers and will start at 9.30am at The Castle Swimming Pool Car Park in Spalding.
Coun Woolf said: “I think it will be a real fun festive event and it is something I am really looking forward to.
“I’m really hoping people can get behind it, enjoy a bit of festive fun, raise money for charity and hopefully it will be something we can repeat in years to come.”
The event will be raising money for Blood Cancer UK charity and Spalding Mencap Society.
Participants can take part in warm-up exercises at The Castle Swimming Pool Car Park from 9.30am, before following the route along Pinchbeck Road, West Elloe Avenue – cutting through to Albion Street, across the river, through Market Place and the town centre, turning right along New Road, up Double Street, looping back round town for a second time, along Westlode Street and back to the castle.
Coun Woolf added: “As Chairman of South Holland District Council, I have widely promoted raising money for both charities at a variety of fundraising events.
“The route incorporates coming through the town centre twice so if people only want to do one lap that is fine.
“Our limit is 200 and I’m looking forward to seeing that many attend. We’d also like to see a mixture of Christmas costumes – we’ll welcome reindeers, angels, elves, presents.
“The Halmer Harriers will be supporting the event and running alongside with buckets to collect donations from members of the public – all donations will be very gratefully received.
“If it all goes well, we could look at opening the event to larger numbers in future years.”
During the fun run, there will be traffic control measures in place on Albion Street and Double Street for a short period of time.
Entry costs £5. If you would be interested in taking part make sure to register here.
Anyone under 16 must be running with a paid adult.
