Market Deeping publicans will be leaving The Bull

Publicans have announced that they are leaving a town venue and have sent a farewell message to punters.

Gail Demaine and husband Alan Spratley have announced that they will be leaving The Bull in Market Deeping on January 21 due to health concerns.

The couple, who took over the 17th century Market Place pub in 2024, say business will continue as normal with earlier closing times on Mondays along with the launch of a new menu.

An announcement was made over Facebook earlier today.

It read: “It is with great sadness that we must announce that we have given notice on The Bull, Market Deeping. Our final day will be January 21 2026.

“The decision was made based on long-term health concerns. A stroke occurred three days after opening in 2024 followed by two recent TIAs. Recovery this time seems to be very much extended.

“We would like to thank the staff from The Bull, The Stage, The Blackhorse and Horseshoe for their unfaltering support and loyalty, dedication and hard work in supporting the Bull and us over this time and when things took an unexpected turn.

“We will cherish the laughter shared, challenges weathered and the FML moments along the way. You are all our superstars!

“We would like to extend our gratitude to all our customers that have supported us over the past year and beyond. The journey has been far from easy, but the community spirit and kindness we have felt will not be forgotten.

“I personally would like to thank my husband Alan who 52 days ago went from husband to carer without hesitation, his unwavering support means everything.

“He says "It’s the best job he’s ever had" (all that know Alan will have read that line in his voice)

“Normal service at The Bull will resume with a slightly earlier closing time on Mondays to 8pm. Our new menu from our wonderful chef Kotryna has been released along with our Christmas Menu.”

The Bull has been visited by our Secret Drinker, who enjoyed his time in the bar along with reviewers from the Great British Pub Crawl.
