A-levels 2024: Spalding High School pupils celebrate successful results and dream big




Spalding High School pupils celebrate with ice cream and relief following another successful year of A-level results.

Many of the students have high aspirations for future careers, including medicine, law, performing on the West End stage, politics, architecture and becoming an author – which they will pursue in universities across the UK.

The sixth form saw more than 300 qualifications during the summer, with more than three quarters being A* to C grades.

Synnove Dallas, 18, of Spalding, achieved three A grades and a B and will be attending Durham University to study biochemistry.

She said: “I am very happy and relieved. There was a constant pit of dread over the summer holidays where you are just waiting in anticipation, so I am happy it has finished.

“I want to create new medicine and help people. I also want to travel to Germany to do a masters and further my education. I will be celebrating my success with a Chinese takeaway at home.”

Eliza Rudd, 18, of Spalding, is looking forward to learning environmental science at York University. She achieved an A in design technology, A in geography and C in biology.

“I am really looking forward to meeting new people. I also play a musical instrument so I am hoping to join a band. The teachers at Spalding High School were all so supportive and wanted what was best for us.” Eliza added.

Jasmine Maladi, 18, of Kings Lynn, achieved an A* in biology, A in chemistry and B in drama. She said: “I love drama. It is my passion and I am going to do musical theatre at Liverpool University – my dream is to perform on the West End stage.”

Tia White, 18, of Spalding, achieved an A in law, B in psychology and C in English literature.

Friends, Ted Bell, 18 of Spalding, and Finley Preen, 18, of Long Sutton, will both be relaxing at home to celebrate their results.

Finley achieved an A in maths, A in classics and B in further maths. He said: “I’m happy. I was on edge about my further maths as I thought I would get a C but I am very relieved.”

Amelia Sieling, 18, achieved an A in classics, B in Latin and B in biology and will be going for a meal to celebrate her successes.

Gwennan Barker-Smith, 17 said: “I got a C in psychology, C in sociology and D in classics – I enjoyed all of my subjects. The highlight of sixth form for me was going on a classics and Latin school trip to Greece – we visited Athens and it was so fun.

“I am going to Cardiff Met University to study education. I am looking forward to exploring the city and living alone.”

Laura Bolleeakker, 18, of Kings Lynn, was so excited with her results and couldn’t wait to tell her family.

She achieved an A in biology, A in psychology and B in chemistry. Laura said: “I was in shock when I saw my results. I ran straight downstairs to tell my family as I wanted to open them alone and I was just jumping around with excitement – I am really pleased.”

Natalia Hulley, 18 achieved an A* in design technology, A in biology, B in chemistry and B in maths. Natalia will be going to Durham to study biochemistry. She said: “I expected more but I have come to terms with it – it’s one of those things which you will look back on and not worry.

“I am celebrating by getting a Dominos, going to Wetherspoons and having an early night.”

Headteacher, Michele Anderson, felt very proud of everyone’s achievements. She said: “We are absolutely thrilled with our results for the individual students and departments.

“They have worked so hard and I am really proud of them – it makes me quite emotional.

“Our students are all progressing on to a number of new opportunities including work, apprenticeships, gap years and for the majority, university.

“Happily, the very great majority have secured places at their first preference university, including Cambridge, to study a variety of disciplines such as: fine arts, marine biology, business management, journalism, economics, medicine, mathematics, nursing, psychology, physics, politics, education and music.

“We wish all our students the very best of luck and every success in the future. We would like to thank them for helping to make the High School the special place that it is.”

Head of sixth form Hannah Waldron said: “They have all worked so hard and got everything they deserve. They have shown what they are made of and I am so proud of everyone.”

Other notable achievements include:

Olivia Derewonko who achieved five grades A* and is going to take a gap year and then applying to university.

Fatema Jaffer who achieved three A Levels at grades A*/ A who is planning to study optometry.

Krzysztof Palonka (four grades A* - B) who is planning to study economics.

Emilia Topka, (three grades A* to A) who is planning to study business management and marketing.

Afra Hossain who is planning to study computer science.

Jess Smith (four A*/A grades) who is planning to study human, social and political sciences.

Evie Booth (four A*/A grades) who is planning to take a gap year and then go to university.

Jasmine Maladi (three grades A* - B) who is planning to study acting and musical theatre.

Misha Rajesh (three grades A* to A) who is planning to study medicine and surgery.

Ella Allmond (three A*-C grades) who is planning to study environmental science.

Lara Bollebakker (three A-B grades) and is planning to study biology.

Sienna Fisher (three A-B grades) and is planning to study psychology with child development

Kira Harvey (four A*-B grades) and is planning to work as a trainee paralegal.

Sakina-Zahra Kurji (three A*-B grades) and is planning to study architecture.

Hannah Mukama (three A-B grades) and is planning to study English literature and creative.
