Gosberton woman sentenced for assaulting police, theft, drunkenness and damage
A 38-year-old woman facing a variety of offences over a nine month period has been ordered to carry out 30 rehabilitation days and pay compensation.
Leanne Thornton, of Lowgate, Gosberton admitted a range of offences including assaulting police officers and members of the public, theft, drunkenness and damage when she appeared at Boston Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
She was appearing for sentence following a pre-sentence report being compiled by the probation service.
Prosecuting, Kate Minihane said that in September last year, Thornton had to be forcibly removed by police from a car in which she had been involved in a domestic dispute with her partner outside Lincoln County Hospital.
During the incident, she flicked glass from the broken window of the car at a special constable and also spat at a police officer.
The prosecutor said Thornton went on to damage a police cell using the handcuffs she was wearing.
She added that in February this year she stole £18 worth of lager from the Co-op in Gosberton, and on separate occasions she was drunk and disorderly and assaulted a man after she got into his car without being invited, and also assaulted one of her neighbours.
Ms Minihane said Thornton had five previous convictions involving 16 offences.
In mitigation, Vicky Clayton said Thornton had 'very poor mental health' and had not been taking her prescribed medication for schizophrenia.
She said Thornton had lost her father and had been using alcohol as a prop but she had been in hospital and had been advised that if she did not stop drinking she would kill herself.
She said she was now alcohol-free and pointed out to the magistrates that,until these incidents, she had not been before a court for 17 years.
For all the offences, the magistrates imposed a two-year community order and ordered Thornton to complete 30 rehabilitation days.
She was ordered to pay a total of £180 in compensation to the people who had been assaulted, a fine of £50 and a total of £195 in court costs and charges.
