Work starts to remove Spalding’s ‘circle of doom’

Work has started to remove a controversial ring of benches in a town centre.

Scaffolding now surrounds the benches and planters in Spalding’s Hall Place - known as the ‘circle of doom’ - as contractors Lindum begin work on a £280,000 project to improve the town centre.

The planters have been emptied and work has started to take down some of the structures.

Workers have also cordoned off the planters along Spalding riverside and in Red Lion Street - which are also included within this South Holland District Council scheme.

The council ran a consultation in October last year asking the public for their views on ‘physical enhancements’ in the town centre.

Earlier this month cabinet member, Coun Gary Taylor, confirmed to the last full council meeting that work would be starting on removing the benches after the pumpkin festival.
