Environment Agency working to increase levels of River Welland at Spalding

The Environment Agency says it is working to increase water levels in the River Welland following an issue with the sluice gates.

Sluice Gate doors in Spalding did not close properly due to a fault yesterday (Thursday, September 10) which prompted the river levels to fall.

Spalding Water Taxi was forced to cancel operations today (Friday, September 12) due to safety concerns over the angle of a jetty at Springfields as a result of the low levels.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said: "Our engineers fixed the sluice gate doors at Marsh Road on the same day that they failed,10 September. They did not close properly, causing upstream river levels to drop.

“We're now working to increase water levels in the river and have notified river users."
