Sutton Bridge youngster battling cancer receives hero’s welcome at Boxes of Hope, Holbeach

A inspirational eleven-year-old boy who is battling cancer has been hailed as a hero in a special presentation.

Jack Naish, from Sutton Bridge, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2023, aged 10, following a routine eye appointment and has received chemotherapy at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.

Following a month’s hospital stay and an emergency visit to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in King’s Lynn, the brave youngster visited Boxes of Hope in Holbeach to meet members of the Crafty Bees for some special gifts.

“He brings inspiration and humbleness to our hub.

“We all feel very privileged to be able to bring a smile to his lovely cheeky face.”

The charity provides practical and emotional support to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.

Members of the Crafty Bees meet every Thursday at the High Street venue to make gifts that are given to various good causes.

Jack had visited the Boxes of Hope Miracles Shop opposite with his legal guardian Belinda McClements and made quite an impression on the volunteers.

They presented him with his hero’s pack which includes a bag, superhero jumper, t-shirt and teddy with his initials.

Jules, a member of the group, said: “You’re a hero Jack.

“We’ve been looking for you for ages since you came to the community shop and you were so polite.

“We thought here is a young lad who deserves a hero’s pack.”

He is now on a trial drug and has been allowed home as long as he has daily blood tests at the QEH.

Belinda said: “His levels are okay and he is no longer having chemotherapy.

“Addenbrookes are waiting for a medicine, they have never treated a child with this at Addenbrookes.

“When it comes from America we will be called back for a 72 hour observation period.”

A special annexe called ‘Jolly Jack’s’ has been designed at their home for and will be painted red, his favourite colour.
