Spalding United beat Royston Town in the Southern League Premier Division Central

Spalding United recorded their biggest victory of the Southern League Premier Division Central campaign to move out of the relegation zone on Tuesday night.

The Tulips were 3-0 away winners at Royston Town despite finishing the match with nine men following the second half dismissals of Connor Brown and Kyle Barker.

Bart Cybulski's fourth goal in as many games had earlier put Spalding ahead with Jordan Nicholson increasing the advantage before the break.

Lamine Sherif then secured the win late on against a Royston side who also had a player sent off following the dismissal of Eunis Lievins.

It ensured a rapid return to winning ways for the Tulips following their disappointing defeat at Hitchin Town on Saturday.

Boss Jimmy Dean said: "I felt that it was really important after Saturday's performance that we showed what the club means to everyone.

"The boys left absolutely everything out there and, as far as performances go, it was pretty fantastic."

It was birthday boy Cybulski who gave Spalding a sixth minute lead as he broke the home side's offside trap to round off a neat move.

Royston came close to levelling with Tyrone Baker hitting the post with a shot before Spalding increased their advantage just past the half-hour mark.

Cybulski blocked Llevins' attempted clearance and the ball broke for Nicholson to slot home past Crows goalkeeper Tommy Dixon-Hodge.

Nicholson was forced off shortly after with a hamstring injury that is likely to mean a spell on the sidelines for the attacker.

Royston were reduced to 10 men three minutes into the second half when Llevins was red-carded for his challenge.

It then became 10-against-10 on the hour mark when Spalding suffered their first sending off with Barker being dismissed.

Charlie Johnson went close for the home side but was unable to force the ball home while Dixon-Hodge produced a fine save at the other end to keep Spalding at bay.

Brown then collected his second caution with seven minutes remaining to leave Spalding to play out the game with nine men.

However, Royston were unable to reduce the arrears and, in the seven minutes of stoppage time, Spalding caught the home side on the break and Sherif wrapped up the win.

Dean added: "To play with nine men for almost 15 minutes and also score just shows that we're fitter and stronger.

"We showed a good organisation. I think it's the first away win of the season after we've had a couple of cracks at it.

"It was also the first clean sheet in the league for a little while and Bart's now got four goals in four games so there were lots of positives."

Spalding now have back-to-back home games as they entertain Banbury on Saturday before hosting Leiston on Tuesday night.
