Spalding United host Stourbridge in the Southern League Premier Division Central

Manager Jimmy Dean wants his Spalding United side to stop treading water and start stringing a consistent run of results together.

The Tulips have yet to record more than two successive wins on the bounce since Dean took over the managerial helm at the end of August.

After a superb success nearly a fortnight ago at Stratford Town, Spalding were beaten 3-1 at home by Bishop's Stortford on Saturday.

They now face two tricky tests in their next outings as they host play-off chasing Stourbridge on Saturday before a trip to third-placed Redditch United next weekend.

Dean said: "We've been addressing the adversity well and bouncing back but we're just not getting the continuity and momentum in our wins.

"We need to follow up a win with another one and then another one. We haven't done that yet, although it is the same with defeats which we haven't let happen.

"We've got to do it soon because we're treading water and it has to stop."

Spalding are currently in 16th spot, two points clear of the relegation zone, ahead of Saturday's home match with fourth-placed Stourbridge.

Both sides have struggled for consistency in recent weeks with Dean looking for a solid showing from his side who were beaten in front of their second largest home crowd of the season last weekend.

He added: "The fans have been brilliant but we've got to give them more - there's no two ways about it.

"The next two games will be really tough against sides in the play-off places but we usually do better against sides that are up there.

"Stourbridge are a good side and it's a really difficult fixture but we have to be better and we will be."

After a revamp of the playing roster, Dean is hoping that a settled squad can start to bring a steady run of results for Spalding without the need for any more new blood.

He commented: "I am sure that all of the players that we've got at the club can contribute towards making us a top half side.

"I'm not going to say never about bringing any more players in because it's always subject to form and players becoming available.

"I always want us to improve and we're not the finished article by any means.

"If the right players become available and I think that it will improve us then I will take them but I'm not desperate to get players in like I have been."

Spalding have signed Liam Moore, Nathan Fox, Dion Sembie-Ferris, Dan Lawlor, Bart Cybulski, Connor Brown, Lamine Sherif, Khanya Leshabela, Maniche Sani, Connor Tomlinson and Jordan Nicholson since Dean took charge.

Just three players - goalkeeper Tony Breeden, defender Glenn Walker and midfielder Lewis Hilliard - from last season's title-winning squad have started the lion's share of the games.

Attacker Sani has been dual registered with United Counties League Premier Division South side Yaxley to get some games under his belt after a lengthy spell out injured.
