Scott Williams plays Ricardo Pietreczko in the Paddy Power World Darts Championship

Having made sure that history did not repeat itself in his last match at the Paddy Power World Darts Championship, Scott Williams is quite happy for that to be the case when he returns to the Alexandra Palace stage this afternoon (Saturday).

Williams defeated former world champion Rob Cross in his second round clash on Monday night to avenge a defeat from two years ago by his close friend.

He now faces German Ricardo Pietreczko for a place in the last 16 having ousted his fellow countryman Martin Schindler at the same stage last year en-route to his memorable run to the semi-finals.

Williams said: "I played a guy from Germany in my first game back after Christmas last year and that went alright so I'll look at it the same way.

"I'm not sure what to expect though because I've only played Ricardo maybe once and it was a close game in a Euro Tour qualifier.

"I've just got to be positive about whatever game I play and I'm just looking forward to it because I'm actually not bad at this game despite being fairly new to it and inexperienced.

"I can hit the doubles and trebles and I'm confident anyway regardless of who I am playing."

Williams again recovered from losing the first set to knock out world number five Cross in a difficult match for both players on Monday.

The Swineshead ace explained: "It was so tough because Rob's one of my closest friends but, when I got up on the stage, I had to treat it like I was playing one of my best mates for £10,000.

"That could have been in Rob's head because neither of us were great.

"I could have won it 3-0 but Rob also missed doubles and gave me a chance and, when that happens, you have to take it.

"My average was a mile away from the first game but the speed of it was a little bit different as Niko Springer pushed me and I knew what he was going to give.

"I was just happy to get over the line."

Williams' match will be the second game of the afternoon with their clash following Ryan Joyce's meeting with Ryan Searle.
