Spalding Rugby Club’s second team beat Leesbrook at Centenary Park

Spalding's second team got their first win of the Counties 3 Midlands East (Central) campaign after a convincing victory over Leesbrook on Saturday.

The Elephants outplayed their visitors in all aspects of the game and had built a decisive lead by half-time.

That caused them to relax and allow the Derby based side to gain a little respectability with three second half tries in a 43-17 reversal.

With their first possession, Leesbrook kicked long but Harry Biehler-Birch took an excellent catch running back and then performed an excellent return, catching the bounce of his own kick and easily outpacing the defence to score under the posts.

After good interplay down the right, Henry Duce scored another touchdown after 21 minutes.

The fly half then made another try for Biehler-Birch and added his second conversion of the afternoon.

Callum Ferguson added the fourth score of the opening half after good pressure on the visitors' line.

Some sloppy defending saw Spalding concede very early after the restart, however, they soon reinforced their dominance with Duce adding a second and Biehler-Birch completing his hat trick while Ronnie Crowfoot joined the scorers with Duce adding two conversions.

Leesbrook crossed twice more as Spalding made changes and gave game time to their replacements. They now travel to face Long Eaton 2nds on Saturday.
