Pinchbeck part ways with manager Crozier after five games
Pinchbeck United manager Tom Crozier has been sacked after just a month in the job and on the back of a four-game losing run.
Knights chairman brought the curtain down on Crozier’s brief spell in charge by claiming that it was a “mistake” to have appointed him in the first place.
Crozier only took charge of the Knights for a total of five matches , drawing one and losing four, with the most recent being a 4-0 home defeat to Cogenhoe United last Saturday.
Coomes handed Crozier the job of succeeding Ian Dunn after he served as assistant manager at Bourne Town, having also managed the reserves’ side at uhlsport UCL Premier Division side Boston Town, as well as the Poachers’ one-time feeder club, AFC Boston.
“I’d say it was a mistake for us to have signed Crozier,” Coomes said.
“I’ll put my hands up and now it’s up to me to turn this ship around.
“At the end of the day, some of the players were good enough, but most of them weren’t and the results weren’t happening either.
“ When it’s like that at any football club then a change is unfortunately needed.
“It’s a shame for us because we brought Crozier, and his associate Elliott Fountain, in hoping they could turn the club around.
“But unfortunately for us it didn’t happen and that’s football at the end of the day.
“Mistakes are made at every level and I think that I probably got steamrolled into doing something that I probably didn’t want to do.
“I’d been looking for a manager for a very long time after Dunny (Ian Dunn) left so I probably made a mistake in rushing into an announcement.
“I think we were looking for the best part of two months before we made the announcement about Tom.
“Next time, we’ll have to look at the appointment in more depth as we want someone who can come in here and instantly jump into what we want to do.
“We know we’re not a big club in this league, we’re small fry compared to everyone else, and I’m not hiding away from that.
When asked if he had a message for the fans, Coomes said: “This is a time to back us and a time to stand up and support the team.
“We all need to rally round and make sure that we turn this club round.
“We’ll be looking to make an announcement imminently.”
The Knights are also looking for their first win of the season when they host fourth-placed Lutterworth Town in the league at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field on Saturday.
With a new manager in place, Pinchbeck will hope for a repeat of their draw at the Swifts a month ago.
