Lincolnshire Premier League round-up

Market Deeping fell just short in a high-scoring run chase as their quest for a first victory of the Lincolnshire Premier League season continued.

The Outgang Road side were beaten on Saturday by just eight runs against visiting Lindum who had set Deeping an imposing target of 306-9 after batting first.

Deeping had enjoyed some early success with Aashar Mehmood taking 3-39 from his seven overs to leave Lindum on 72-3.

However, a 113-run partnership for the fourth wicket between opener William Wright and Gareth Purshouse pushed the match back in Lindum's favour.

Wright was eventually caught by Tom Berwick off the bowling of Mustafa Mughal whose 93 which featured 13 fours and two sixes.

Purshouse had reached 66 before he was bowled by Marcus Telford who took three wickets during his 10-over spell.

Deeping though conceded 69 extras which featured 59 wides with Mehmood (16), Telford (16) and Sam Jarvis (15) all falling foul of the umpire.

That would ultimately prove to be Deeping's downfall as they finished their 50 overs on 298-7 and just short of their first win of the campaign.

Connor Gillett (38) and Josh Smith (76) put on 74 runs for the first wicket while George Woods and Sam Malton continued their recent good form with 42 and 47 respectively as Deeping eventually ran out of overs to pass their target.

The defeat leaves Deeping second-from-bottom of the table, just three points adrift of Spalding who lost by 69 runs at Woodhall Spa.

Walter Kinlock had taken 3-33 from a tidy 10-over spell while Harsh Bhandari and Josh Lawrence both took two wickets each as Woodhall made 236-9 from their 50 overs.

Despite losing opener Jon Manton early on, Ollie Dring (33) and Lawrence (59) led the Spalding reply with a 65-run stand for the second wicket.

However, the wickets then started to fall at an alarming rate for Spalding who were bowled out for 167 with Ethan Lawrence the other only batsmen to double figures as he finished unbeaten on 22 not out.

Matt Carter led the Woodhall attack with 5-31 which took out the Spalding middle order.

After starting their season with back-to-back wins, Bourne have suffered successive defeats after a five-wicket loss at reigning champions Scunthorpe.

They made 256-6 after electing to bat first with Dan Freeman thumping 11 fours and four sixes in his 105 off just 91 balls.

Jordan Temple (30) and Carl Wilson (32) also contributed but Bourne's total wasn't enough when Scunthorpe's Priyanshu Khanduri arrived at the crease.

Freeman had ousted opener Ben Conroy third ball, courtesy of a Rob Dunn catch, which brought out Khanduri who proceeded to smash 19 fours and two sixes in his 141 not out.

A half-century from Tom Giles also helped guide Scunthorpe home in the 41st overs to maintain the champions' 100 percent start to the season.

The title holders travel to Spalding on Saturday while Bourne host Market Deeping in a derby duel at the Abbey Lawn.
