Reaction from Spalding United manager Jimmy Dean after their victory over Redditch United

Manager Jimmy Dean praised the desire of his Spalding United players as a positive reaction helped produce a return to winning ways for the Tulips on Saturday.

Spalding had gone into their Southern League Premier Division Central clash with Redditch United on the back of successive defeats.

They then conceded after just four minutes of the match at the Sir Halley Stewart ground before bouncing back to run out 2-1 winners.

Dean said: "I've obviously reacted sorely to two results which have gone against us.

"I've put that into the players but I was determined not to do that whatever happened on Saturday.

"Even when we went 1-0 down, I controlled my temperament but it was a frustrating start to say the least.

"It was a shaky start and you're trying to control yourself at that moment and you put your trust in what we do.

"It is difficult because you're a goal down after just losing two games on the bounce.

"Credit to the players though because they really showed a wanton desire and I love being associated with players like that.

"I've had it at both my clubs in the past where players do care and they're great lads who give their all.

"We wanted a positive reaction and thankfully we got one."

Jason Law scored his first goal since joining on loan from National League North side Scunthorpe United to bring the Tulips level.

James Clifton then scored a sublime winning goal in first half injury time with a deft overhead flick from a corner.

Dean added: "I think it is really important that we have players on the pitch who can contribute to the goals more.

"It is a gripe of mine and I'd like to see us sometimes be a bit more dominant at set pieces and go and get a few more goals because ultimately they win you games.

"James Clifton took it really well, probably like only he can.

"It was a fantastic finish and he's become an important player after coming back in."

Dean was also full of praise for centre-half Liam Moore who shrugged a possible cracked rib in the first half to help his side to victory.

He said: "Liam has dropped down levels but he's come in and put his body on the line for us.

"He showed the care and desire to get his team-mates through it so credit to him after carrying that injury.

"It was nervy in the second half because of the week that we'd had. We certainly didn't want to be going a third game without a win.

"I thought the players really managed it well though.

"We showed resilience and character like we have done so many times to turn the game around.

"All of the players, to a man, deserve an awful lot of credit."

Spalding are now up to ninth spot after the win ahead of next Saturday's trip to 10th-placed Stourbridge.
