Deepings Swimming Club take part in the Rob Welbourn open meet at the Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham
Deepings Swimming Club made a fantastic start to the new season while hosting their own annual Rob Welbourn open meet at the Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham.
Stiff opposition was provided from City of Peterborough, City of Lincoln Pentaqua, Grantham SC and Louth Dolphins.
However, Deepings continue to go from strength to strength with around 40 swimmers taking part in each session over the weekend.
They ranged from nine-years-old through the age groups and even with some Masters taking part.
Deepings swimmers set an incredible number of 255 personal best times (PBs) across the weekend which was 17 more than last year's Rob Welbourn event.
There were also 67 county qualifying times which was nine more than the previous year.
Additionally, Jacob Briers in the 15 years and over age group had an incredible meet, securing four Midland qualifying times in the 200m backstroke, 200 individual medley (IM), and the 200 and 100 butterfly.
Oliver Clarke, in the 11/12 boys age group, managed to smash two long standing club records, firstly in the 50m breaststroke, the record of 39.00 which had stood since 1996 was incredibly lowered by 2.5 seconds with a time of 36.46.
This was also a new Lincolnshire County Record and puts him second in the United Kingdom rankings.
He then annihilated the club 200m breaststroke record, which has stood since 2008 after lowering it from 3.04.49 to 2.57.56 which was good enough to place him seventh in the UK rankings.
Not surprisingly, Clarke won one bronze medal, five silvers and four golds.
