South Lincs and Border League round-up




Moulton Harrox suffered their first defeat of the South Lincs and Border League campaign after losing a table-topping Championship clash on Saturday.

They were beaten by second-placed Newborough who ended Moulton's seven-match winning streak with a two-wicket victory at Broad Lane.

The hosts were dismissed for 138 with captain Matt Rose top-scoring for Moulton after making 20.

Shiva Teekasingh took 4-24 from his nine overs for Newborough who reached their target despite a strong showing from the Harrox bowling attack.

Rose and Harry Lovell both took four wickets each but the innings' of David Cooper (46) and Tom Shipman (35) proved pivotal for Newborough who closed the gap at the top to three points.

Bourne 2nds lost ground in the race behind the top two after being beaten by 119 runs against third-placed Boston at the Abbey Lawn.

The visitors made 199-9 after batting first and then dismissed Bourne for 80 in reply.

Long Sutton were awarded the 20 points after Woodhall Spa 2nds conceded their clash at Paradise Field.

Their second string edged a narrow one-wicket win against Ancaster in Division One.

Sutton had restricted their hosts to 184-9 from 45 overs with Rob Simpson taking 3-35 and both Barry Stanway and Dan Plant picking up two wickets each.

The middle order of Dinesh Elangovan (47), Rajesh Ponnam (26) and Dan Oldfield (30) then provided the backbone of the Sutton reply before Ajith Mandala helped them to victory with 22 not out.

Dave Newman took four wickets as Billingborough beat Burghley Park 2nds by eight wickets.

Newman claimed 4-28 from 6.5 overs while Aaron Green and Aaron Pullum both took two wickets each as Burghley were bowled out for 130.

Dylan Garfoot (57) and Newman (37) got the Billingborough reply off to a strong start with a 94-run opening stand.

Moulton Harrox 2nds remain at the foot of the table after losing by 150 runs against high-flying Orton Park.

The Peterborough side made 269-8 after batting first with Dylan Stukins and Pradeep Indika both taking three wickets each for Moulton.

The visitors were then bowled out for 119 in reply with opener Zak Maddison the top scorer for Moulton after making 27.

Orton Park 2nds also picked up a convincing win in Division Two after they defeated Spalding 2nds by 142 runs.

Josh White had taken two wickets for Spalding as their visitors racked up 296-6 before the hosts were dismissed for 154.

Phil Lewis (25), Andrew Sorrell (34) and Jack Sawyer (33) were the top scorers for Spalding who are bottom of the early standings.

Baston are just one place above the bottom markers after losing by 10 wickets at Castor.

They were bowled out by their visitors for 71 with Castor clinching the victory inside 10 overs.

Billingborough 2nds skittled out Heckington for just 22 as they won by 124 runs in their Division Three match.

The hosts had been bowled out for 146 themselves with A Morris making 46 but Heckington lasted just 12 overs in their reply before being bowled out.

Harry Lamb and Aaron Bradshaw claimed 3-2 and 3-0 respectively while three of the Heckington batsmen were also run out.
