Victory for Spalding Water Polo Club in their first match in the Hertfordshire League

Spalding water polo kicked off their league season with a home victory against Hertford.

They put out a team with many fresh faces playing their first competitive game for the club in the Hertfordshire League clash.

The game started slowly in the first quarter but it was Hertford who found the net first by scoring twice before Phil James pulled one back for Spalding.

Spalding scored two goals without reply in the second quarter, both coming from Adam Gibbons.

The third quarter saw three goals scored for each team with Dan Leigh and Josh Lamb (two) both scoring on their debuts for Spalding.

The hosts then scored twice more in the final quarter through Matthew Papworth and Aaron Trevor to secure an 8-5 victory.

Trevor was then dismissed late on along with a Hertford player after a confrontation which saw both receive a red card and being sent out of the game in the final minutes.

Spalding are due to travel tonight (Monday) to reigning league champions Bedford for their next game.
