Oskar Gadzia scores an injury-time winner as Holbeach United defeat Leiston Under 23s in the Thurlow Nunn League

Oskar Gadzia marked his Holbeach United debut by netting an injury-time winner as the Tigers maintained their play-off push with victory over Leiston Under 23s on Saturday.

Gadzia netted the winner deep into stoppage time as Holbeach ran out 3-2 winners in the Thurlow Nunn League Division One North clash at Carter's Park.

They twice led their Suffolk visitors through goals from Callum Wright and Josh Ling before being pegged back by a Leiston side who finished with 10 men ahead of Gadzia's last-gasp winner.

It secured a second successive league win for Chris Carter's charges who have only lost once since the end of October.

The strong run of form has now moved Holbeach up into sixth spot, just two points away from the play-off places.

They got off to the perfect start on Saturday by taking a first minute lead as Wright guided Ryan Cook's cross into the Leiston net.

Whether the early goal brought an element of complacency into Holbeach's game or Leiston lifted themselves but the struggling visitors responded well to the setback.

Home goalkeeper Josh Simpson was forced into a couple of smart saves to prevent the visitors from equalising while Marley Hamilton saw a low strike kept out before he was forced to withdraw from the action due to injury.

Leiston levelled just past the half-hour as they reacted first in the penalty area to smash home a loose ball after a couple of crucial blocks from Jordan Oldham.

Holbeach regained the lead just before the break as Ling bundled the ball home following a goalmouth scramble from a home corner.

Simpson again did well to deny Leiston in first half stoppage time before Holbeach created a good chance at the start of the second period as Cook sent substitute Oakley Williams clear but he was thwarted by the Leiston goalkeeper in a one-on-one.

The visitors continued to pose a threat to the Tigers through their lively attackers and they again equalised after prodding home a rebound following a fine save from Simpson.

However, during the aftermath of the goal, Mackenzie Travis collected a second yellow card for trying to take the ball out of Simpson's grasp to get the game restarted which left Leiston to play out the contest with 10 men.

Holbeach pushed more men forward and Kelvin Ibeneme flashed a shot wide before just failing to connect with a Gadzia cross.

Substitute Gadzia then teed up Pat Kacirek whose shot was saved while Cook had an effort cleared off the line in what looked like being Holbeach's best attempt at taking the three points.

However, deep into injury-time, substitute Cam Lee swung over an inviting cross that the incoming Gadzia turned into the net to secure a vital three points for the play-off chasing hosts.
