A look ahead to the weekend matches involving Holbeach United, Spalding United and Pinchbeck United

Manager Callum Lawe wants his Holbeach United side to keep raising standards at the Thurlow Nunn League club.

The Tigers have overcome a difficult pre-season with Lawe and assistant Callum Madigan only being appointed shortly before the start of the new Division One North campaign.

They host Wivenhoe Town on Saturday where victory could propel Holbeach into the top half of the league table.

Lawe said: "I'm really proud of what we've accomplished in such a short time.

"I think it's shown the faith from the boys who originally started the project with us while other players who have come in have been impressed with what's been created and wanted to stick around.

"It's been key to getting the likes of Oli Williams and Luke Nicholson and we have just got to keep raising the standards and I think the boys will keep doing that."

Holbeach host a Wivenhoe side on Saturday looking to complete a quick-fire double over their Essex visitors.

They were 3-1 away winners last weekend following goals from Pat Kacirek, Denis Coelho and Jamal Shenille.

Lawe added: "It's going to be fresh in the mind of what to expect from them.

"I don't think they will change their style of play very much so we've got to make sure that we go out and do what's required to get the three points."

Pinchbeck United face a tricky trip to fifth-placed Stapleford Town looking to reverse a disappointing run of results.

The Knights fell to their third successive United Counties League loss after two-goal defeat at Dunkirk on Tuesday night.

They missed a penalty early in the second half of the Division One match through JJ Ward with the game goalless and also spurned several other good openings.

New signing Ryan Dean - who has previously played for Dearne and Armthorpe Welfare - and Flynn Slater squandered good opportunities for the Knights.

Ben Maxwell then put the home side in front in the second half before Craig Westcarr sealed Dunkirk's win with a second goal late on.

Pinchbeck boss Lewis Thorogood said: "We are a little bit down on confidence.

"With confidence being lacking, it's affecting the quality in both the attacking and defensive thirds.

"We played some very good offensive football on Tuesday night and we created a whole host of chances but we didn't take them.

"With the best will in the world, if you're not protecting your goal and you're not taking your chances then you deserve to lose games football - it's as simple as that."

The Knights have also recruited former Holbeach United player Joshua Bodibe on a short-term deal from United Counties League Premier Division North side Skegness Town.

Mark Makaka has also made the switch from Thurlow Nunn League Division One side FC Parson Drove as Thorogood looks to rediscover the winning formula.

He added: "We've got to take it one game at a time at the moment.

"There's a lot of football to be played but changes have got to be made because I've got to get us out of this slump that we're in at the moment.

"The good work that we've put in during August and September has been completely unravelled and undone in October so changes need to be made sooner rather than later to stop this period of inconsistency in terms of results."

Table-topping Spalding United are in FA Trophy action as they host Northern Premier League Midlands Division side Corby Town in a first round tie at the Sir Halley Stewart ground.

The Tulips have recorded 5-1 and 4-0 home wins in their last two games to take over pole position in the Southern League Premier Division Central standings.

The Steelmen play a level below Spalding but moved up into fourth place on Wednesday night with a 4-1 home win over Lichfield City.

They have ex-Tulips Connor Tomlinson and Tyrone Lewthwaite in their playing ranks as well as Holbeach's Jack Keeble.
