Holbeach Bank Football Club stages the annual match for Jonny Britton
Footballers and supporters turned out in their numbers at Holbeach Bank on Saturday to raise money for two charities in the memory of former team-mate Jonny Britton.
Jonny died in 2012, aged 35, due to spinal cancer, leaving behind his wife, Jane, and young daughter, Ava.
In 2013, it was decided to organise a charity match in Jonny's memory to raise funds for St Barnabas Hospice who looked after him in his final months.
This game was the sixth in his memory and more than 100 people supported the event and helped to raise in the region of £1,925.
The monies will be split between St Barnabas and the UK Stroke Association and the success of this year's event has now taken the total fundraising in Jonny's memory to more than £7,000.
The event was organised by Adrian Britton, Jonny's twin brother, and his former managers Ian Walsham and David Dickinson.
They took charge of Wallies Wallies and Dicko's Diamonds in a match which was refereed by James 'Freddie' Truman.
The Diamonds took the spoils in the match which saw around 30 players take to the pitch in memory of the former Holbeach United Social Club player.
The organisers would like to thank sponsors MJS Projects (March) Ltd, Dyson Farming, Mossop & Bowser Solicitors, Naturally Best Marketing, Spice Express, Tesco (Holbeach), Mowen Photography and Littlebury Medical Centre for their support as well as Holbeach Bank Football Club and its committee for hosting the event and the loan of equipment.
