Pinchbeck United host Whittlesey Athletic in the Thurlow Nunn League
Manager Lewis Thorogood is hoping his Pinchbeck United side can take another step towards hitting their target for the opening month of the season when they return to Thurlow League action tonight (Tuesday).
The Knights host Whittlesey Athletic in a Division One North clash at the Sir Halley Stewart ground (7.45pm).
Pinchbeck have picked up four points from their opening four games of the season with Thorogood eyeing a maximum return from this evening's match along with Saturday's rearranged trip to Swaffham Town.
He said: "I've got a target that I want to achieve by the end of the month points-wise and the Whittlesey game is one we're looking at getting a result from.
"They are two games where, if we have aspirations of being up and around there, we ideally need to be getting six points from.
"My target was to get to 10 points by the end of the month and, if we can win these next two games, I will be very satisfied.
"We watch videos of our games and we're not far off. I do think that slowly it is starting to come together now."
The Knights bowed out of the FA Vase at the weekend after a 6-1 away reversal against higher level Lutterworth Town.
However, after making progress last Wednesday night in the League Cup with victory over Holbeach, Thorogood feels his side are still on track in the trophies after recovering well from an early deficit to tame the Tigers.
He added: "If we want to be competing in and around there then we have to stand up to teams like Holbeach.
"Both teams went strong and nobody compromised because neither side wanted to lose a local derby.
"We stuck at it after going behind and didn't panic. We kept persevering and were prepared to have a battle.
"We showed a bit of character, spirit and guile to get back into the game and I was pleased with how we managed the first half of the game.
"I felt we were the better team in the second half and it was a confidence boost for us.
"Regardless of the result, it was our best performance of the season in terms of our maturity and having that little bit of experience to carry a game through.
"I have a progression target for us in the cups this month and it was to go through at least one of them which we have achieved."
Pinchbeck have suffered an injury setback with recent signing Ewan Fieldhouse being replaced in the Holbeach game after a recurrence of a hamstring problem.
