A look ahead of the weekend matches for Pinchbeck United and Spalding United

Manager Lewis Thorogood feels a return to winning ways would reinvigorate everybody at Pinchbeck United as they aim to halt their losing streak on Saturday.

The Knights have lost their last four games in the United Counties League Division One to fall away after an early season play-off push.

They now face a vital home match with Gedling Miners Welfare on Saturday looking to complete a league double over the Nottinghamshire side.

That's then followed by a trip to league leaders Retford on Tuesday night in a tricky start to November for the Knights.

Thorogood said: "The last month has gone and we can't change it.

"We've got a very difficult first week of next month as well and we've got things we need to work on.

"We've got to be putting chances away, getting the ball moving quicker and pressing harder.

"Confidence is a little bit low and we're just going through the motions a little bit.

"But, if we can get a positive result on Saturday, it lifts the mood and takes that little bit of weight off everyone's shoulders.

"It reinvigorates everybody and that's what we're craving and looking for."

Spalding United will be looking for a rapid return to winning ways when they resume their Southern League campaign at Alvechurch.

The Tulips bowed out of the FA Trophy last weekend after a 1-0 home defeat to lower level Corby Town.

Manager Jimmy Dean wants his table=topping side to use that setback to fire their push for promotion this term.

He said: "We've got a tough week coming up but we've had a full week of training which we will use to rectify the goals which we have been conceding.

"The goals we conceded the last two Saturdays should not be happening because there is enough experience on the pitch to identify it.

"The positive of losing on Saturday is that we weren't going to win the FA Trophy and, although we wanted a decent run in it to try and get some big sides down here, we've just got to get our eyes focussed on the league.

"One result can't define us and we don't want to be losing games at home so there will be a reaction.

"We will be better and get back to doing what we do best, which is scoring goals and winning games."

Spalding also have a midweek league match next Tuesday when they host Quorn at the Sir Halley Stewart ground.

Holbeach United - who were beaten 2-1 on Wednesday night against Boston United Under 23s in the Pete Cousins Memorial Cup - travel to Gorleston Reserves in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League.
