Josh Lawrence scores a century as Spalding Cricket Club beat Market Deeping in the Lincolnshire Premier League
A century from Josh Lawrence helped lead Spalding to victory in their Lincolnshire Premier League derby duel with Market Deeping on Saturday.
Lawrence made 104 as Spalding ran out 31-run winners against a Deeping side who are still seeking their first league win of the campaign.
Spalding had been bowled out for 246 after being put into bat by their hosts who were then bowled out for 215 in reply.
Deeping had enjoyed early success in the Spalding innings as Ollie Dring and Jon Manton were dismissed for 13 and 10 respectively to the bowling of Matt Mills and Sam Jarvis.
Lawrence led the Spalding fightback with Divyeash Vaseeharan adding 22 and Barnaby Dring making 22 before Deeping ripped through the lower order.
Josh Smith took 3-36 from his 10 overs while Mustafa Mughal bagged a brace to put Deeping on the brink of bowling out their visitors.
However, they hadn't accounted for a superb last wicket stand between Lawrence and Nilantha Atapattu which helped Spalding to a healthy total.
Lawrence was eventually bowled by Kester Sainsbury with four balls of the Spalding innings remaining while Atapattu remained unbeaten on 41 not out.
Atapattu then took a couple of early wickets in the Deeping reply as he trapped both Smith and Sam Jarvis leg before.
Deeping captain Connor Gillett also fell for 12 after being caught by Walter Kinlock off the bowling of Harsh Bhandari.
Aashar Mahmood (46) and George Woods (26) brought Deeping back into the contest before Mughal added a further 43 to the home side's cause.
However, Matthew Key claimed three wickets while Kinlock also picked up a pair before Bhandari had Sainsbury caught behind by keeper Ethan Lawrence to seal an excellent win for Spalding.
The victory moved Spalding up into ninth in the 12-team division while Deeping dropped down to second-from bottom.
Bourne also fell short in their run chase after losing away at Grantham.
The hosts had made 226-4 from their 50 overs after batting first with Bourne being bowled out for 195 in reply.
Spalding entertain Grantham on Saturday while Bourne are at home to Lindum with Market Deeping visiting Burghley Park.
