Lincolnshire Premier League cricket round-up




An excellent all-round performance from Hayatullah Niazi helped inspire Market Deeping to a derby victory on Saturday.

Niazi took four wickets and also scored a century as Deeping made it back-to-back wins in the Lincolnshire Premier League with a four-wicket victory at Spalding.

They had put their hosts into bat after winning the toss and Niazi made the first breakthrough when he bowled Spalding opener Keyan Gace for 19.

Jamie Coles then joined Ollie Dring and then added a further 38 runs for the second wicket until the former was caught behind by wicket-keeper Dave Sargeant off the bowling of Reece Plowright.

Niazi then ran Chris Dring out without the experienced Spalding batsman facing a ball before Ethan Lawrence came together with Coles.

They put on 51 runs for the fourth wicket until Lawrence was caught and bowled by James Hook for 25.

An 82-run stand between Coles and Nilantha Atapattu then aided the Spalding cause as they moved to 222-5.

Atapattu had made 31 when he was caught by Plowright off the bowling of Niazi who then claimed the vital wicket of Coles for 73 to finish with 4-41.

Matt Mills then ripped through the lower order with a terrific hat-trick to dismiss Brandon Andrews, Mike Kearns and Neo Timothy in consecutive deliveries to to end with 3-27 as Spalding were bowled out for 237.

Deeping slipped to 27-2 in their reply as Grace and Brandon Andrews took the wickets of Josh Smith and Mills respectively.

However, this brought Niazi to the crease and he smashed seven sixes and six fours in a match-winning innings of 105.

He put on a 57-run partnership with James Hook who made 39 before Niazi was stumped by wicket-keeper Ethan Lawrence off the bowling of Ollie Dring with Deeping 20 runs short of their target.

Sargeant then struck an unbeaten 34 as Deeping secured their second win from three games in the 46th over.

Gace and Josh Lawrence both grabbed two wickets each as Spalding continued their search for their first win of the season.

Deeping host reigning champions Lindum this weekend while Spalding travel to face an unbeaten Bourne side.

Bourne were five-wicket winners on Saturday against Nettleham in a match reduced to 30 overs.

The Lincoln side had batted first and made 138-7 with Corey Young and Dan Freeman both taking two wickets each for Bourne.

The visitors then found themselves in trouble at 14-3 in reply until Jordan Temple and Freeman formed a match-winning partnership.

They put on 76 runs for the fourth wicket until Temple fell for 55 but Freeman (42no) and Courtney Kruger (21no) saw Bourne home in the 28th over.

Newly-promoted Long Sutton suffered another heavy defeat after a 216-run home reversal against Woodhall Spa.

The visitors made 287-8 from their 50 overs after batting first with Prasanna Jaywardene and Aaron Keverne-Onyon both scoring half-centuries.

Charlie Crisp claimed three wickets for Long Sutton who were then bowled out for 71 in reply as Jaywardene took 4-16.

Tim Norris top-scored with 21 for Long Sutton who make the trip to Bracebridge Heath this weekend.

Spalding were defeated in the ECB National Club Championship after a six-wicket home loss to Ashmanhaugh and Barton Wanderers on Sunday.

They were bowled out for 113 with Barnaby Dring top-scoring with 33 with the visitors passing their target inside 18 overs.
