Pinchbeck United take on Whitton United in the Thurlow Nunn League
Consistency will be key for Pinchbeck United manager Lewis Thorogood as his side make their long-awaited return to Thurlow Nunn League action on Saturday.
The Knights haven't played a match in Division One North since their away reversal at Whittlesey Athletic on December 28.
A couple of postponements combined with free weekends have left the Knights waiting to bounce back from two defeats over the festive period as the Whittlesey reversal came just two days after a Boxing Day defeat against Holbeach United.
They did play a Thurlow Nunn League Cup tie against Fakenham Town last Tuesday where they were beaten on penalties by their Premier Division visitors.
And the Knights boss wants his side to use that performance as a catalyst for their league match with Whitton United at the Sir Halley Stewart ground on Saturday.
Thorogood said: "We raised our game against higher level opposition like we always do.
"It's now about clearing that mental block in that we know we can do it against the better teams so we need to be doing it against our bread and better in the league in the second half of the season.
"The group has got to learn and develop on their journey for us to be better and, as we've said all along, consistency is key."
Pinchbeck are currently in 12th spot in the table, 14 points adrift of the play-offs, but with games in hand on a number of sides above them in the standings.
Thorogood added: "We've got 15 games of the league season remaining and there are a lot of points to play for.
"I haven't set any pressure or expectation on the players this season at all.
"We would like to still give it a bit of a push and go to see if we can get in and around the play-offs.
"If everything goes the right way, it would be amazing to sneak into the last play-off place.
"I'm looking at building blocks really and having the foundations to kick on next season.
"The realistic target for me is to try and finish in the top seven or on the periphery of the play-offs and that gives us a really good foundation to be that bit better and get into the top five next season."
Pinchbeck will be looking to complete a league double over Whitton when the two sides meet on Saturday.
They were 2-0 away winners in the October meeting in Suffolk after goals from Luke Cullen and Pat Kacriek, who has since joined Holbeach United.
Thorogood commented: "We now need to focus on the second half of the league season and see what progression and improvements we can make.
"I want us to work on climbing the table place by place because we will not be setting any goals or aspirations.
"I want us to try and see if we can close that gap and get up into that top pack of teams and go from there."
Holbeach are five places above the Knights in seventh spot after their weekend win against AFC Sudbury Reserves.
They welcome Leiston Under 23s to Carter's Park on Saturday.
