It’s been a successful year for a primary school’s basketball teams.
Tydd St Mary C of E Primary School has been able to enter three teams in the Norfolk Youth Basketball League (NYBL) - with 27 of its 105 pupils involved.
This local league has seen Tydd Titans, Tydd Titans Too and Tydd Titan Girls, the school’s first ever all-girls team to have entered the competition, play against squads from Bury St Edmunds, Great Yarmouth, Fakenham, King’s Lynn, and Norwich.
This year Tydd Titans finished top of League A, remaining undefeated.
Tydd Titans Too finished fourth in League B, with many players playing for the first time this year, and Tydd Girls in sixth position, making this year the school's most successful yet.
On Sunday, the teams went to the cup and plate finals and came away from the tournament winning the cup and coming fourth in the plate.
One of the players, Max Clifton, was also awarded most valuable player (MVP) for the entire tournament and has been selected to join the East Region Basketball England Aspire programme for gifted and talented players.
Sonya Ely, executive head teacher at the school, said: “We are incredibly proud of the children and their achievements against such tough competition.”
