Welland Yacht Club stage their awards night
Andy Prior picked up a dozen awards at the annual presentation night for the Welland Yacht Club.
Commodore Sarah Prior handed out the accolades with Prior leading the trophy trail after a series of successes.
He won the Frostbite Series, Sunday Points Trophy, Tulip Regatta, Masters Trophy, PBS Salva, Welland Paddle, Robert Creek Shield, Flag Officers Cup, Herbert Ingram Cup, and Adventurers Trophy during a successful campaign.
Prior also triumphed in the Carl Bilbie Pursuit Trophy with Harry Jackson and took top spot in the Club Championship to win the Gooch Trophy.
Mark Scourfield was runner-up and Alan Cox third for their exploits during the campaign.
Scourfield won the Sunday Morning Points, Commodore's Points and Autumn Points (Graduate Challenge Cup) events.
Cox claimed success in the Lowland Novelty Race Trophy and Munson Cup while Andy Agar took the spoils in the Personal Handicap Series and was second in the Tulip Regatta,
Helen Boyd won both the Ralph Gibson Trophy, Chris Mew award and Most Improved Helm while Harry Jackson collected the Maclaren Crew Trophy and Under 10s accolade.
Alan Chapman took home the Ann Smith Perseverance Trophy as well as the Ditch Crawler and Herd Salva (novice).
Geri Van Haren received the Brass Monkey award with Keiron Powell finishing third in the Tulip Regatta.
Richard Stedman won the Richard Glenn Challenge Bowl while Tom Bell took the Grounds Trophy with Adam Stabler and Monika Nowak winning the Talents Trophy.
Eric Murray won the Bailer Trophy and Ian Thompson took the Tombstone Trophy for the best capsize of the season. Alan Bishop of Hunts Sailing Club won the Richard Thacker Trophy.
Mark Scourfield claimed a victory double in the latest rounds of the Frostbite Series at Welland Yacht Club on Sunday.
He made the most of almost ideal late Autumn conditions for the sailors with sunshine and a moderate breeze that had deserted them of late.
Seven boats came to the start line for the third race of 12 in the series with Alan Chapman getting away ahead of Scourfield.
Chapman covered Scourfield all the way to Chilvers Corner and was able to round just in front of the tight reach to the buoy which he held onto to just gain rights as both boats turned for the return.
It looked to be the same for the second lap until Chapman chose to get too near the clubhouse and fell into the wind shadow.
He lost ground to Scourfield who took advantage to close in and this made all the difference when the handicaps were applied.
Chapman was just 30 seconds clear at the finish which saw Scourfield take the victory on the handicap.
Alistair Mitchell was third ahead of Richard Stedman, Adam Stabler, William Stabler and Eric Murray.
The second race of the day was held immediately after and six boats started as the wind had now just picked up and provided some excellent sailing.
It was again Chapman and Scourfield who opted to make the start mid-river as the wind direction had marginally changed.
It was a very tight reach up to Shelly's Bush Corner and Chapman in the larger boat was able to just pull out a lead as they turned.
Mitchell was also a lot closer to them than in the first race, taking advantage of the reduced sail area in the gusts.
Chapman crossed the line first and was followed by Scourfield ahead of Mitchell, Stedman, Stabler and Murray.
The outcome was going to be tight for the first three places and so it proved when the handicaps were applied with Scourfield coming in first just six seconds in front of Chapman who was clear of Mitchell by the same margin.
