Deeping Rangers defeat Kimberley Miners Welfare
Deeping Rangers rose out of the United Counties League Premier Division North relegation zone after a vital victory on Saturday.
The Claret claimed a 4-1 home success over Kimberley Miners Welfare who they leapfrogged to climb out of the bottom two in the division.
Despite going behind to an early goal from Aaron Coyle, Rangers responded in style with Byron Adiado bagging a brace and David Burton-Jones and Oleksandr Muzychuk also on target.
It brought Deeping their first win in eight league games following the success over Melton Town on December 10 after a tough run of matches for Brett Whaley's side.
The Deeping boss said: "Everyone knew it was a big game because of the league positions but we kind of felt that we've had four really difficult matches.
"We always knew that they were going to be hard against some really good sides and it put us under pressure because we hadn't picked up any points.
"Kimberley are one of the form sides in the league but we really stood up.
"We've had really good performances in the last three games and the important thing was to match that level of performance and I think we exceeded what we have been doing.
"We thoroughly deserved it. We scored four goals and had two other good chances which could have made the scoreline even better for us."
Kimberley arrived at the Haydon Whitham Stadium having beaten Bourne Town last weekend after a huge upturn in form.
They took a 17th minute lead when Coyle's low drive went into the home net off the post.
However, Rangers got back on level terms eight minutes before the break with Adiado converting from close range following a flurry of free-kicks.
They then moved ahead just before the break when Burton-Jones curled home an effort from just outside the penalty area.
A third goal followed after the break with Adiado netting his second of the afternoon to put the Clarets in control of the contest.
They then wrapped up the win late on when Muzychuk scored his second goal for the club to send the majority of the near 200-strong crowd home happy.
Whaley added: "We had a brilliant crowd and if people keep getting behind us then it really helps.
"We were fighting to get back into the game after going behind but it does make a difference when you know that you've got people behind you.
"We were really grateful for the support because it does tip the balance for you and, when we started to get on top of the game, they folded a bit.
"As a club, it's a really good day but we can't just have the odd good one because we need it every week.
"The key for us now is not to get too excited about it.
"If we keep getting better and having that level of performance then we will be fine."
Deeping play the second of three successive home games on Saturday when they host Gresley Rovers.
