Deeping Rangers face Harrowby United in the final of the South Kesteven Cup

Deeping Rangers will be aiming to net some early season silverware on Saturday.

The Clarets take on new United Counties League Premier Division North rivals Harrowby United in the final of the South Kesteven Charity Cup (3.30pm).

The match is being played at Grantham Town's Meres Stadium after Rangers overcame the Gingerbreads in their semi-final last week.

Goals from Josh Moreman and Jonny Lockie secured the win for the Clarets as higher level Grantham were left to rue missed chances.

The Gingerbreads had a number of good opportunities midway through the second period but couldn't get the ball over the line.

Similar to the previous week, Grantham started the game strongly and dominated the early exchanges.

Rodrigo Goncalves and Lewis Greenfield both had good efforts - Deeping goalkeeper Tyler Key saved from Goncalves while Greenfield fired just wide.

Despite the early dominance, Grantham fell behind after 17 minutes as Moreman curled a free kick from just outside the penalty area low around the Grantham wall and it just beat Curtis Hall to open the scoring.

It could have been two to the home side just after the half hour when Jordan Oldham headed a corner just over the top of the Grantham net.

A good move three minutes later saw Grantham draw level.

Goncalves beat two defenders on the left hand side and laid a perfect pass back for Brad Munns to fire home into the bottom corner of the net.

Midway through the second half, Grantham took control of the game.

Deeping substitute goalkeeper Michael Duggan rode his luck as first a shot from new signing Bailey Baker - who has arrived from Stocksbridge Park Steels - came back off the Clarets custodian but he recovered and took the ball at the second attempt.

After 72 minutes, Baker delivered a low cross that James Thornley almost turned into the net.

Goncalves had two clear strikes, one saved by Duggan, and the other flew over the crossbar.

Munns had a shot blocked and Leke Shodunke hit a shot on the turn that Duggan again saved well.

The missed chances came back to haunt Grantham six minutes from time.

The Gingerbreads didn't fully clear a corner and, when the ball was whipped back into the near post, Jonny Lockie flicked a header across Hall into the net for the winning goal.

Bourne Town host Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Downham Town in their next pre-season friendly on Saturday.

The Wakes lost 5-2 against St Neots on Tuesday night after being 1-0 winners over Pinchbeck United on Saturday thanks to a late goal from Henry Dunn.

Blackstones host Sileby Rangers at Lincoln Road.
