Mark Scourfield is leading the way in the Frostbite Series at Welland Yacht Club
Mark Scourfield is setting the pace in the Frostbite Series at Welland Yacht Club after a victory double on Sunday.
He is currently five points clear of the second-placed Alan Chapman with racing every Sunday in the series up to and including Boxing Day.
Sunday arrived with leaden skies but more importantly a fresh breeze, albeit from an unusual direction which made launching and sail hoisting difficult.
The water levels were also low which made for a tricky start where Scourfield set off first of the five boats.
With clear air, Scourfield managed to hold onto his lead with Alistair Mitchell and Andy Agar swapping places in the battle for second spot.
At the conclusion, it was Scourfield who crossed the line first three minutes ahead of Agar who pipped Mitchell by just six seconds.
Scourfield maintained the win on corrected time with Mitchell taking second from Agar ahead of Eric Murray and Adam Stabler.
All the same boats came to the start for the second race where Scourfield was again first away just ahead of Agar.
Wind strength had stayed the same with some tasty gusts keeping everyone on their toe straps as Scourfield again held onto his lead to cross first ahead of Agar, Mitchell, Stabler and Murray.
After the handicaps were applied, Scourfield remained in first place from Agar who had pulled out enough to finish a minute ahead of Mitchell with Murray in fourth and Stabler fifth.
